DREAMS STILLS 01 STILL copy.jpg

Ang mga Damgo Wala Gintuga sang Kahanginan
(Dreams Aren't Made by the Wind)

Director's Notes

Dreams Aren't Made by the Wind was intentionally released in 2020 during the quarantine period in the Philippines when the world is suffering from the unwanted CoVid19 pandemic. But there is another kind of pandemic - the ones that destroy nature and the ones that destroy our souls. There is the pandemic of hate and intolerance.

The film explores themes of regret, pain, sorrow, diversity, remembrance and how plagues affect us, how we see nature and other living things who are unlike us in skin color, in preferences, in beliefs and in life's diversities. Though a fantasy, the film promotes one primary message: understanding minorities, diversities and our oneness with the environment. By way of a folkloric story, the central characters of the film are experiencing plagues and the story strongly suggests that without a sort of a symbiosis with the enviornment and people who are unlike us (symbolically, other cultures) reaching one's dreams may not be possible. With the current climate (hate towards Asians and minorities), the film strives to deliver messages of hope, tolerances and understanding.

More than a statement, it is my offering to the world. A way to heal our souls through a children's fantasy. To comfort. To give hope. To spread kindness and tolerance. For all of us.
